They also well known as a social gathering place unique to Nozawa Onsen where residents and travelers are able to communicate over the bath. Thanks to the establishment and great effort of the local "Yu Nakama" community who live around the hot springs, all these public communal baths are managed and well maintained. All the onsens are free to use, but it is highly appreciated that visitors can drop a few coins in the offertory box provided after you enjoyed it.
